The teaching staff at a school in Putrajaya dress up as fairy tale characters on orientation day.
The school’s headmistress Nor Aizah Ismail wore a witch’s costume and hat which would have been right at home in a Harry Potter story, while a female teacher was dressed like a princess in a pastel-coloured dress and a tiara. Other teachers also adorned tiaras made from flowers.
Nor Aizah also distributed pencil boxes containing stationery sets to the pupils attending today’s orientation.
When met by reporters, the headmistress said the teaching staff chose to dress up as fairy tale characters to create a cheerful and inviting atmosphere for the new school goers.
“Pupils who enter Year One have to undergo a transition from being in a playful atmosphere to that of attending school. They may have spent a lot of time watching the various fairy tales.
“So, we dressed up as those characters so that the pupils can relate to them. This will reduce their anxiety to attend school, and make them more confident and happy,” she said.
Nor Aizah said this year’s intake was the highest ever recorded by the school.
At today’s orientation session, parents who accompanied their children attended a briefing session and were given sets of textbooks, while the pupils were taken to the canteen where they were trained to purchase food and drinks with their pocket money of RM3 each.
One of the pupils attending today’s orientation session, Afza Amir Kushairi, said he was excited to begin schooling.
“I woke up at 6am today, and it was fun to see the teachers wearing all these beautiful costumes,” he said.
