Landslide: Victim’s wife clings on to hope he’s alive

sad-wifeGEORGE TOWN: “I hope my husband is found safe so that we can celebrate the birth of our first born together,” said Nuraini Rosanti Abdullah, 32, whose husband is believed to be one of the victims yet to be found in the landslide at Lengkok Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah here.

Nuraini, who is three months’ pregnant, said she and her Pakistani husband, Ali Raza Mohd Jamil, 23, had been looking forward to becoming parents soon.

“We met in Melaka early this year and got married last June,” she told Bernama when met today near the site of the landslide.

Nuraini, who is from Sulawesi, Indonesia, said she was informed of the landslide by her father, who also lives here.

“Life suddenly turned bleak, but at the same time, I hope Allah will save my husband,” she said.

Eleven workers have been confirmed killed in the landslide which occurred at a construction site of an affordable housing project in the area.

Nuraini said she was informed that the search and rescue operation was hampered by the presence of piling rods which had to be cut.

She described her husband as a caring and quiet person.

“He normally likes to eat the carp dish which I cook for him, but the night before, he did not touch the dish and only ate crackers and then went to bed,” she said.
