KOTA BHARU: The number of flood victims in Kelantan fell to 944 from 263 families at 4pm today compared with 1,220 victims from 278 families at 12 noon today.

Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Kelantan director Zainuddin Hussin said all the flood victims were still staying at 23 evacuation centres, namely eight in Kuala Krai, Jeli (four), Tanah Merah (six), and one centre that recently opened at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Rahmat, Pasir Mas.

He said the number of victims in Kuala Krai now stood at 463 from 122 families, 348 victims in Jeli (94 families), 154 victims in Tanah Merah (44 families) and nine new victims from three families in Pasir Mas.

“All the evacuation centres in Kuala Krai, Jeli and Tanah Merah currently show a declining trend although the evacuation centres have not been closed as the victims decided to return home after the weather improved this afternoon,” he said when contacted by Bernama here.

Zainuddin said only one family or 14 victims were still staying at the evacuation centre at the South Kelantan Development Authority (KESEDAR) hall in Sungai Satan, Jeli compared with 54 at noon.

However, he said flood evacuation centres may be opened in several other districts including Pasir Mas and Tumpat later as river waters began to flow to these areas.
